History of Uluwatu School

Uluwatu School was established in 2024 by a founding group of parents and educators who live and already contribute to the surrounding community in Uluwatu. They had a need and a passion for curating a progressive school to serve their own children as well as the growing community. A community with shared values of place and belonging, of joy, discovery and purpose.

The founding group in the starting years run as the Board of Governors who lead the school through this initial chapter. The group holds a range of expertise representing education, business, law, surf culture, hospitality and art.

Uluwatu School is an international learning community based on the southern coast of Bali, serving students aged 6–18. In its first year, in August 2025, the school opened with its founding cohort from Grade 1 to Grade 6. We will open a full Middle School in August 2026 and continue expanding into High School. As our community grows, we remain committed to making a positive contribution to the Uluwatu area and becoming a leader in ocean conservation and water research.

The Uluwatu School curriculum is an evolving framework developed specifically to support our community living into our mission, ‘to love learning, be curious, make meaningful connections and contribute to the world they live in.

Our curriculum is informed by best educational practices, research and frameworks. Our educators are constantly engaged in its evolution and relevance. As we connect to the ocean through our teaching and learning we contribute to the development of ocean literacy in Indonesia and globally.

Uluwatu School is part of the Yayasan Sekolah Uluwatu which is a legally recognised foundation in Indonesia.

Our Mission

Empowering our community to love learning, be curious, make meaningful connections and contribute to the world we live in.

Our Vision

At Uluwatu School, Connection, Curiosity, Collaboration and Contribution are our guiding aspirations. Our programme, pedagogy and activities explore these and bring them to life and are full of joy. Building connection, we make learning relevant and applicable to the real world of now and the future. Nurturing curiosity, our community is aware and shares new possibilities and explorations. Knowing that we are never alone, and to shape our perspectives we seek active collaboration with local experts and global initiatives. In being self aware we understand how we can contribute in meaningful ways, and the responsibilities we have to our community and wider world.

Alongside academic confidence, our learners are empowered to understand who they are, explore their interests and develop their passions through our learning adventures. We place Social Emotional Ethical Learning at the heart of our curriculum, which provides connection, grounding and a sense of belonging. The SEEL program provides a framework that motivates our learners to engage ethically and compassionately as a member of a global community
