How does the school engage parents in the school community?
Our parents are an integral part of the Uluwatu School community. Our parents are invited to contribute to our school through our parent group called ‘PAUS’ (Parent Association of Uluwatu School). ‘Paus’ means whale in Bahasa Indonesia and whales symbolize guardianship, wisdom and exploration. All parents automatically become members of the association, and we will be asking for nominations for key positions to bring parent voice and projects to the school.
During the admissions process parents will have the opportunity to share their skill sets and if they would like to be included in volunteer positions/ sharing workshops.
As our event calendar starts there will be key assemblies that parents will be invited to, workshop series and also the development of our parent hub, created by the parents for the parents.
How do you communicate with parents about learners' progress?
At Uluwatu School we believe that the school, parents and child are one team and clear and timely communication will support the learners journey and progress. We build these relationships in the initial stages of a learners' time at Uluwatu School through ‘Meet the Educator’ informal sessions and ‘Meet our Program’ events in which parents are introduced to our unique curriculum. Throughout the academic year, we have two written report documents that include educator feedback and learner reflection. We also have two learner-led conferences where we honor our learners individual qualities in format that celebrates their own areas of growth.
All our learners keep a portfolio of their learning journey, and throughout the term there will be moments to share these with parents at home. We are eager to activate the learners from the start, so rather than waiting for a final ‘product’ or ‘assessment’, we foster conversations about learning throughout the school year.
How is the school addressing sustainability or environmental awareness?
Uluwatu School is committed to become a beacon of Ocean Literacy and ocean education, and ensure that we have a positive impact on our local environment and community. We plan to make our campus a research space, working with students to create a sustainable campus and an evolving learning environment. We seek partnerships with those at the forefront of environmental and sustainability to inform our policies, practices and actions. You will see our policies evolve to ensure that we enact real sustainiblity in all aspects of our organization and community.
We know that the ocean's health depends on all of our action, and through our awareness programs we will provide opportunities to come together as a community to become ocean stewards.
If you are an expert in sustainability or would like to contribute to our efforts please contact: harriett@uluwatuschool.org.

This includes procedures for evacuations (fire and earthquake), lockdown and other emergencies e.g. volcanic eruption etc. Procedures are carefully and mindfully explained to our learners, procedures are posted clearly in classrooms, are practiced regularly, and are updated as needed.
In regards to parent communication, during admissions we collect your contact information and emergency contact becomes part of our emergency procedures. We ask families to inform us immediately if any changes are made to these contact details.
We encourage our parents to familiarize themselves with our procedures that will be located on our website and let us know if they have any concerns.
