Why
Uluwatu School

Uluwatu School is an international learning community school in Uluwatu founded on the belief that education should inspire balance — between intellect and imagination, local and global, self and community. Our holistic approach weaves together academic excellence, emotional intelligence, creativity, and sustainability.

Learners are encouraged to think critically, act compassionately, and live responsibly — developing not only strong minds but open hearts. We celebrate cultural diversity, environmental awareness, and the joy of discovery every day.

Living in Uluwatu

Uluwatu, on Bali’s southern coast, is a beautiful place for families to live, learn, and grow. Surrounded by beaches, cliffs, and vibrant local culture, life here moves at a relaxed and balanced pace. Families enjoy a lifestyle that blends nature, community, and creativity — from sunrise beach and weekend markets to yoga, surf, and cultural celebrations.

Renowned for its world-class surf breaks, Uluwatu offers waves year-round, making it a paradise for ocean-loving families and young learners who thrive by the sea.

With comfortable villas, healthy food options, and a welcoming international community, Uluwatu offers everything families need to feel at home. It’s a place where children thrive in nature, parents find balance, and every day brings a new connection to Bali’s beauty and spirit.

Our
Community

We are a close-knit, international community of learners, educators, and families who value respect, kindness, and meaningful connection. At Uluwatu School, learning is a shared journey grounded in collaboration, open communication, and mutual trust. Every learner is known as an individual, supported through strong relationships, and encouraged to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Our community fosters a culture of belonging where diverse perspectives are respected and learner voice is valued. Families in the Bukit Peninsula often choose Uluwatu School for its progressive approach to learning and strong sense of community. Families are active partners in the learning process, working alongside educators to support each learner’s development. Through shared experiences, community engagement, and reflective practice, we create an inclusive environment where learners feel safe, confident, and empowered to contribute positively to the school community and the wider world.

History of Uluwatu School

Uluwatu School was established in 2024 by a founding group of parents and educators who live and already contribute to the surrounding community in Uluwatu. They had a need and a passion for curating a progressive school to serve their own children as well as the growing community. A community with shared values of place and belonging, of joy, discovery and purpose.

The founding group in the starting years run as the Board of Governors who lead the school through this initial chapter. The group holds a range of expertise representing education, business, law, surf culture, hospitality and art.

Uluwatu School is an international learning community based on the southern coast of Bali, serving learners aged 6–18. In its first year, in August 2025, the school opened with its founding cohort from Grade 1 to Grade 6. We will open a full Middle School in August 2026 and continue expanding into High School. As our community grows, we remain committed to making a positive contribution to the Uluwatu area and becoming a leader in ocean conservation and water research.

The Uluwatu School curriculum is an evolving framework developed specifically to support our community living into our mission, ‘to love learning, be curious, make meaningful connections and contribute to the world they live in.

Our curriculum is informed by best educational practices, research and frameworks. Our educators are constantly engaged in its evolution and relevance. As we connect to the ocean through our teaching and learning we contribute to the development of ocean literacy in Indonesia and globally.

Uluwatu School is part of the Yayasan Sekolah Uluwatu which is a legally recognised foundation in Indonesia.

Our Mission

Empowering our community to love learning, be curious, make meaningful connections and contribute to the world we live in.

Our Vision

At Uluwatu School, Connection, Curiosity, Collaboration and Contribution are our guiding aspirations. Our programme, pedagogy and activities explore these and bring them to life and are full of joy. Building connection, we make learning relevant and applicable to the real world of now and the future. Nurturing curiosity, our community is aware and shares new possibilities and explorations. Knowing that we are never alone, and to shape our perspectives we seek active collaboration with local experts and global initiatives. In being self aware we understand how we can contribute in meaningful ways, and the responsibilities we have to our community and wider world.

Alongside academic confidence, our learners are empowered to understand who they are, explore their interests and develop their passions through our learning adventures. We place Social Emotional Ethical Learning at the heart of our curriculum, which provides connection, grounding and a sense of belonging. The SEEL program provides a framework that motivates our learners to engage ethically and compassionately as a member of a global community

Location

Uluwatu School is housed in a repurposed art studio originally created by the late, celebrated artist Ashley Bickerton. This unique origin gives our campus a truly distinctive character — where creativity, light, and space come together to inspire learning.

The building’s artistic heritage is reflected in every corner: open, airy classrooms, high ceilings, and thoughtfully designed spaces encourage imagination, exploration, and collaboration. Learners are surrounded not just by beautiful architecture, but by a sense of artistic legacy and creative possibility that informs the way we learn and grow.

Nestled on Bali’s Bukit Peninsula, the campus also benefits from natural surroundings — tropical gardens, ocean views, and outdoor learning spaces — creating a harmonious environment where nature and art meet education. Our learners are immersed in a setting that fosters curiosity, creativity, and a deep connection to the world around them.
